Memory: 008, "Father, I must break my promise. I am sorry."

This memory begins as you make your way back from the grocery store with icing sugar. It's an indirect memory of the one where the young boy asks you to make a cake with him, as this is the final ingredient in finishing it up. All you're really worried about is finishing it and eating it later with Takumi, but you know there's another reason for making the cake today and it makes you rather content.

That is until you hear screaming coming from the dorm kitchens where you were headed. Stopping in confusion, you look up just in time to see Takumi running out of the kitchens carrying a cake... Followed by a giant monster. It's with little hesitation that you drop the icing sugar and run off to follow them. Not without quickly changing into the ninja outfit you usually wear in situations like this.

You arrive just in time to see Takumi being cornered near a boulder with the monster trying to take its final strike. Quickly you pull out several shuriken and through it towards it, a direct hit with every one.

"That's as far as you go, monster!"

It's a declaration to get the creature's attention off of Takumi. Unfortunately, Takumi also sees you and recognizes you pretty immediately. Not that you notice or pay him any mind as you jump down from the top of the tree-tops to engage in battle with the monster. You summon your knife once again and manage to deflect most of the knife-like projectiles it's shooting at you. Unfortunately, it manages a direct hit in your side that forces you to land with a grunt on the ground.

The monster raises its head to the sky to rev up for its final attack and you tsk.

"I have to break my promise, father," you mutter to yourself, "please forgive me." You move the knife to hold in your mouth in a twist before moving your fingers together in a familiar ninjutsu.

"Rin Byou Tou Sha Kai."

As you say it the wind picks up and underneath your feet a creature appears. Slowly, the form of the giant mechanical frog comes up, "Gennai Sui-san!"

The frog emerges and takes a few steps further, but you continue your chanting to help it realize fully and prepare for battle. When the spotlights appear on its back and produce the shadow of the monster you don't hesitate to jump to get above it and through your knife at the top of its shadow, immobilizing it.

"The ultimate... Hellpot!"

You jump out of the way as Gennai releases its tongue that pierces straight through the monster and destroys it in one fail swoop. With its work done the frog disappears and you land carefully on the ground to where it was before.

Unfortunately, now that immediate danger has obviously gone away Takumi approaches.

"...Akira-kun...?"

Blinking in surprise you wave you her hand to try and deflect him.

"No. I am not Okuzaki Akira. Um... I am..." You try to find the words before placing your hands on your hips with an 'aha' idea, "Yes! I am a secret ninja who was chosen for a special mission to protect this school from dangerous monsters!" As you proudly proclaim this your cheeks turn redder and redder at how ridiculous it sounds, but you must play it off.

"Are you the one who's been protecting us all this time...?"

This catches your attention as something you didn't expect Takumi to say and for a moment you lower your guard. Just like that it's back as you narrow your eyes and look discreetly away.

"...Yeah. That's right."

Takumi takes a few steps closer, offering an encouraging smile, "thanks a lot, Aki-- I mean, secret ninja-san."

"Anyway!" You say abruptly, holding a finger before turning away, "don't tell anyone about this. All right?!"

You don't wait for an answer before you run back into the trees and hurry on your way. You only stop to change briefly before heading back into yours and Takumi's shared dorm.

It's only there in the safety of your room that you react to the pain building in your side. "It got me good," you mutter quietly, hand hovering over the spot where the blood is already turning your white-button down a deep crimson.

Carefully you remove each layer of your top clothing before reaching the bandages that restrain your chest. Slowly, you take those off too and hardly glance at them before giving a slight tsk.

"Damn, they've gotten bigger," you grunt before glancing up and towards Takumi's side of the room, "...I hope he hasn't realized my secret..."

It's your last lingering thought before you move to properly bandage the wound and rewrap your chest before finding new clothes for the day.
